Bio

Alex Louloudis was born in Drama, Greece, in 1993 and started playing drums and percussion when he was 9. He performed professionally for the first time when he was 13.

A year before, at the age of 12, Mr. Louloudis started studying drums and classical percussion at the Conservatory of Music in Drama under the guidance of Mr. Fotis Valeras. He went on to perform with various local bands and percussion ensembles while taking lessons with drummer Nikos Vargiamides, performing outside Drama, playing a variety of hand percussion at traditional Greek music festivals and studying Jazz and Afro-Cuban music.

Mr. Louloudis received a scholarship to study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, the renown university in NYC. He was also awarded the Eubie Blake Scholarship, and the ‘Kostas Kouvidis’ Scholarship for drummers. He graduated from The New School in December 2017.

Since moving to the United States, Mr. Louloudis has been mentored by Francisco Mela, Gene Jackson, Sam Ulano, Reggie Workman, Billy Harper, Charles Tolliver, Oliver Lake, Anthony Coleman, Jane Ira Bloom, Andy McKee, Yosvany Terry, Amir Ziv and Master Drummer and founder of the Michael Carvin School of Drumming, Mr. Michael Carvin. Mr. Louloudis has also recorded and played with luminaries such as Ahmed Abdullah, Charles Tolliver, Diane Moser, Fabrizio Sotti, The New York Jazz Philharmonic, Bobby Sanabria, Yunior Terry, Todd Reynolds, David Lang, Bang On A Can, Warren Smith and Rafael Statin; and he has performed at countless venues such as Fat Cat Music, Melrose Ballroom, The Greek Cultural Center in NY, Shrine, Harlem School of Arts, Nublu, The Bronx Music Heritage Center (BMHC), Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Smalls Jazz Club, the Zinc Bar, Arnold Hall, Shapeshifter Lab,The Glass Box Theater, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland,The Experimental Center for the Arts in Thessaloniki, the Borusan Sanat in Istanbul, De Ruimte in Amsterdam, the ancient Greek theater in Philippi, the National Public Radio of Greece in Athens.

He has released three albums, Elements Brought Together by Love (2017), Words (2021),and What We Are (2023).
